Just thinking about getting into the cold water gives me goosebumps, but I have to admit that the relaxing effect – once I'm finally in – is noticeable.

Why is that?
During intense exercise, waste products from energy metabolism accumulate in the muscles, which can lead to subtle tissue injuries. A four- to fifteen-minute ice bath immediately after exercise can have a positive effect for the following reasons:
In cold water, blood vessels constrict, and the body counteracts this with heat. The change in temperature promotes blood flow, stimulates the circulatory system, and accelerates the removal of waste products. This also reduces the incidence of inflammatory reactions caused by micro-injuries.

How do you make an ice bath?
To do this, fill a tub with the coldest water possible and add ice cubes to cool it down further. It's enough to keep your legs covered in the tub. If you don't have bags of ice cubes at home, you can also take a cold shower after your workout. And by the way: always breathe deeply and with concentration. 😉
