Whey, also known as "Schotte" in German, is a yellow-greenish liquid and the part of milk that does not become cheese during the cheese-making process. It is particularly valued for its whey proteins and individual amino acids, including a high proportion of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs), which are known for their significant health benefits.

Whey also contains essential vitamins and minerals. As a natural product with a complex composition, whey has long been recognized and well-researched for its positive effects on health and well-being.

In everyday language, "whey" is often used to refer specifically to pure whey protein. As a result, many suppliers of whey protein powders for nutritional supplementation simplify - though not entirely accurately - by labeling their products simply as "whey."

We are the first company to work exclusively and consistently with Swiss whey. Very few whey protein-based products are actually made from Swiss whey. Many other products on the market are labeled as "developed and manufactured in Switzerland," but this typically refers only to the blending of ingredients. They do not use Swiss whey protein.

This is legally permitted, and there is a special exemption under the Swissness regulation. The reason for this lies in the limited availability of whey protein powders from Swiss whey. For example, there is no whey protein isolate made from Swiss whey (as of January 2023).

We are working closely with the Bern University of Applied Sciences and our production partners on further developments and research. Our aim is to make better and more holistic use of Swiss whey - not just the whey proteins - and to optimize and diversify the properties of protein powders and other whey products. We also strive to further enhance their health benefits, all through natural methods.

When the entire whey is dried, it is referred to as whey powder. If part of the whey is separated before drying in order to increase the protein content in the powder, the result is known as whey protein powder. There are different types of whey protein powders.

For powders used in the preparation of shakes, whey protein concentrates and whey protein isolates are most commonly used. Depending on the degree of processing and the concentration method, different solids from the whey remain in the final product.

Whey protein concentrate contains up to 80 percent protein but still retains some milk sugar (lactose) and minerals. To achieve a protein content higher than 80 percent, the concentrate must undergo further processing, resulting in whey protein isolate, which consists almost entirely of pure protein.

Our protein porridges contain oats that are not certified gluten-free. While oats themselves do not naturally contain gluten, cross-contamination with wheat can occur during harvesting and processing. As a result, we cannot guarantee that the product is completely gluten-free. Only specially certified oats may be labeled as gluten-free.

The Recovery Protein Powder Nature contains approximately 9.8 g of lactose per 100 g of powder. A 25 g serving provides about 2.5 g of lactose.

The flavored Recovery Protein Powder contains around 6 g of lactose per 100 g of powder. A shake prepared with 40 g of powder and 200 ml of water (as recommended) contains just under 1 g of lactose per 100 ml of finished shake. This is about five times less than regular cow’s milk and is considered low in lactose. Many customers with lactose sensitivity report good tolerability.

The drink contains approximately 4.2 g of lactose per 100 g of powder. When prepared with 35 g of powder in 500 ml of water, this results in about 0.3 g of lactose per 100 ml.

It is difficult to achieve an intense, fruity taste in a powdered product. During the drying process, many of the volatile flavors of the fruit are lost along with the water. And in a product with a low fat and sugar content, it is an additional challenge to enhance the flavor intensity of the flavors present in the finished product in a natural way; it does not work by simply adding more flavors.

The perception of the intensity of the flavor is also primarily related to the sweetness, which we work with great restraint in the Recovery Shake Powder. We do not add any sugar or artificial sweeteners, and the fat content also plays a major role in the perception of flavor. This is noticeable when the shakes are mixed with milk or a fat-containing milk substitute. The flavor is immediately more intense due to the higher fat content and also due to the sweetness of the milk or milk substitute, but we have not yet managed to make the flavor more intense without losing any of its naturalness or functionality.

Whey proteins have a foaming and stabilizing effect. The more native the proteins are, the stronger the foam formation. Our whey proteins are very native, which is good for their effect in the body, but unfortunately also creates more foam.

Other manufacturers counteract the foam with defoamers. However, as these are artificial additives, this is out of the question for us. We have tried to optimize the recipes so that the foam is naturally slightly reduced. Mixing it with milk, which contains milk fat, makes the foam more homogeneous, and if the foam bothers you, we also recommend preparing the drink an hour before consumption or simply before training and then refrigerating it. Then it will be perfect when you have finished your workout.

The Recovery Shake is quite filling due to its high protein and fiber content and can occasionally serve as a meal replacement. However, to be considered a complete meal replacement - including from a legal standpoint - it would need to contain more vitamins and minerals.

Prepared with low-fat milk and fresh fruit or vegetables as a smoothie, you're already getting quite close.

Important: Always aim for a balanced diet overall, and supplement with micronutrients if needed.

Yes, increased protein intake is especially important with age to counteract age-related muscle loss. Our products contain high-quality whey protein as well as naturally occurring B vitamins, specifically supporting the maintenance of muscle strength and vitality.

Yes, our products are suitable for children, thanks to their natural ingredients and the absence of artificial sweeteners or unnecessary additives. During growth, children have increased energy and protein requirements. This is especially true for physically active children, who rely on adequate protein intake to support healthy development.

Unflavored protein powder is an excellent choice for recipes such as pancakes, muffins, and protein bars. You can use it as a substitute for flour. Replacing up to 1/3 of the flour with protein powder works well in many recipes.

The amount of xylitol varies depending on the flavor.

If you prefer to avoid xylitol: our Protein Porridges contain no xylitol at all - they are free from added sugars and sweetened only with the natural sugars found in the ingredients.

The Protein Porridge contains approximately 1.6 g of lactose per 100 g, which is about 1 g of lactose per serving (60 g).

The easiest way to prepare it is with water, but depending on your personal preference, you can also use milk or a milk substitute, e.g. oat drink. For an average portion, 60 g are measured into a small bowl, which is about 6 tablespoons. Then pour approximately 90 ml of warm to hot liquid over it. If you don't want to measure, the 90 ml will just about cover the 60 g mixture. Leave to stand for approximately 3 - 5 minutes, then the porridge is ready to eat.

Tip: Refine the porridge with fresh fruit and a little natural yoghurt.

Of course, the preparation also works in the same way as you are used to with other porridges.

Yes! For a cold version you can mix the porridge with cold milk, water or plant-based drink and leave to soak for a few minutes. For overnight oats, simply leave to soak overnight in the fridge - perfect for a refreshing breakfast

De-sugared whey powder is a type of whey powder from which a large portion of the milk sugar (lactose) has been removed. What remains are primarily the minerals (salts) naturally present in whey. It also retains naturally occurring whey proteins and vitamins, making it an ideal base for a natural, electrolyte-rich beverage.

A small amount of milk sugar remains in the powder. However, when prepared according to the recommended serving instructions, the finished sports drink is low in lactose, containing less than 1.5 g of residual lactose per 500 ml.

No, it does not contain too much sugar. Refuel Energy & Hydration is a beverage that provides the body with both electrolytes to maintain an optimal fluid balance and energy during physical exertion. The body needs sugar during exercise, which it immediately uses as a source of energy.

The recommended preparation of 35 g of powder for 500 ml of liquid is an average guideline. If the exertion is longer or more intense, the amount of powder can be increased to provide more carbohydrates, i.e., more sugar. However, when using the Mate-Mint flavor, it is important to note that increasing the powder amount also raises the caffeine content.

To maintain a normal fluid balance, our body needs electrolytes. Electrolytes are minerals that carry an electric charge when dissolved in a fluid such as blood. The electrolytes in the blood – sodium, potassium, chloride, and bicarbonate – help regulate nerve and muscle function and maintain the body's acid-base balance and water balance.

In other brands, sodium is often added primarily in the form of table salt (sodium chloride or NaCl), and the additional electrolytes are provided as industrially manufactured salts. The sodium content in these products is often higher than in our products, which is why the salt content appears higher in their nutritional information.

What truly matters for function and for maintaining fluid balance (hydration) is not the salt content, but the total electrolyte content.

RecoBiotic is an innovative dietary supplement specifically designed to support recovery after intense training or a physically demanding daily routine. It contains the beneficial microorganism Propionibacterium freudenreichii JS27, which converts lactate in the gut into propionate - a short-chain fatty acid with positive effects on energy metabolism and gut health.

During physical exertion, muscles produce lactate, which can contribute to muscle fatigue. Part of this lactate enters the gut via the bloodstream, where it can be converted into propionate by P. freudenreichii JS27. The lactate threshold is a measure of performance, indicating the point at which the body produces more lactate than it can clear. The bacterium Propionibacterium freudenreichii JS27 converts lactate into propionate. Propionate is a short-chain fatty acid that can be converted into sugar by the body and may have positive effects on athletic performance (Cousin et al., 2011; Rabah et al., 2017; Scheiman et al., 2019). RecoBiotic leverages this dual approach - promoting lactate breakdown while simultaneously producing propionate - as an innovative way to enhance recovery and athletic performance.

Lactate is not only a byproduct of intense exertion, but it can also be reused as an energy source. While the liver and other organs break down lactate, the gut can serve as an additional "lactate reducer." By converting lactate into propionate, the gut could help prevent excessive lactate buildup, which can otherwise lead to muscle fatigue (Moxnes & Sandbakk, 2012; Grosicki et al., 2019).

Yes! RecoBiotic was developed for all athletes, whether endurance athletes, strength athletes, or team sports players. Any sport that involves intense exertion and increased lactate production can benefit from more efficient lactate utilization. RecoBiotic can also provide support for individuals with a physically demanding daily routine.

We recommend taking 1 capsule of RecoBiotic daily for optimal results, ideally in the evening after training or physical exertion. For increased workloads, we recommend increasing the daily dosage to up to 5 capsules per day. The exact dosage instructions can be found on the packaging or our website.

We are committed to clean sport. Our product RecoBiotic® is regularly tested for selected doping substances, making it suitable for competitive athletes.

RecoBiotic breaks down lactate - provided that lactate reaches the gut. Once you stop taking RecoBiotic and no more lactic acid is present, the bacteria are most likely expelled from the gut. The effect of RecoBiotic on the gut microbiome can vary from person to person. It depends, among other factors, on diet, gut permeability, and the existing microbiome.

A long-term colonization of the bacteria is only possible under favorable conditions, as the already established gut bacteria often make it difficult for new microorganisms to permanently settle. Additionally, the microbiome is constantly changing - due to factors such as diet, stress, or the use of antibiotics.

However, many users report noticeable positive effects after just a few days. For sustained results, regular use is recommended.

RecoBiotic and sodium bicarbonate pursue a similar goal—they aim to help reduce the negative effects of lactate buildup, also known as "acidification" during intense exertion. However, their mechanisms of action differ significantly:

Food waste refers to food that is not used for human consumption, even though this loss could have been avoided. Whey is a highly valuable raw material for human nutrition, and not using it as food constitutes waste.

Whey is part of milk - a product whose production requires significant energy and places a considerable burden on the environment. If whey is not used as food but instead repurposed, for example, as animal feed or for energy generation in biogas plants, this alternative use delivers only a fraction of the environmental benefit that would result from preventing its loss as a food resource.

Whey is part of milk and therefore not vegan, but it is vegetarian, as no animal rennet is used in the cheese production from which our whey is sourced. For us, the key question isn’t whether a product is animal-based or plant-based, but whether it is resource-efficient, healthy, and enjoyable. Our protein powders are based on whey – a valuable by-product of Swiss cheese production that would otherwise often go unused. Making meaningful use of existing resources is very important to us.

At the same time, we understand that our current range isn’t a suitable option for people who follow a vegan lifestyle. That’s why we are also developing plant-based products. However, it’s important to us that the raw materials used are not highly processed and come from as close to home as possible – meaning no heavily isolated proteins from far-away regions, but ideally upcycled ingredients from Swiss production as well.

We care deeply about the sustainable use of resources and have given the topic of packaging a great deal of attention during product development. When choosing packaging for our products, we have to consider a wide range of factors.

These include the necessary protection of the product to ensure a long shelf life and stability during transport, the packaging infrastructure available at our production partners, the best possible alignment with consumer needs, and of course, sustainability.

After carefully weighing all of these factors, we chose our current cups and pouches. The cups are optimized compared to those used for similar products on the market. They are made from fully separable materials, use as little plastic as possible, are reinforced with recycled cardboard, and do not include an additional drinking lid.

For the Recovery Shake Powder, we opted for pouches because they require minimal material. That said, there is certainly still room for improvement when it comes to packaging!

We assure you that we are continuously working to improve. We're still at the beginning of our journey and are focusing on a few key areas where we can make the greatest possible impact.

Switzerland already has very strict guidelines for agriculture and food production, which often exceed international organic standards. Our whey comes exclusively from Swiss cheese dairies and bears the Swiss organic seal of approval.Swiss Guarantee,This means that origin, freedom from genetic engineering and production standards are clearly regulated.

Consistent organic certification is currently not possible because the whey streams from organic and conventional cheese production are inseparable. If we were to use exclusively organic whey, a large portion of this valuable raw material would be lost. Furthermore, there is currently no organic whey protein powder produced in Switzerland.

Our focus is therefore on the best possible use of Swiss whey and clear transparency. For us, it is more important to sustainably utilize a regional byproduct than to use an organic protein powder from abroad with unclear origins.

Whey is produced in large quantities during cheese production and is often barely used for human consumption. Wheycation upcycles it into high-quality food products instead of ending up in animal feed or biogas plants.
What's more, everything is made in Switzerland. No long transport routes like with imported protein powder, but short cycles from the cheese dairy to your door.
