"Swiss Whey in the middle of the great, wide ocean! Would you like to join me in our boat? We can take you dry-footed across the deepest and largest ocean in the world, all the way to Hawaii, using the power of your drinks."
Astrid wrote this to us this March, and we were immediately hooked. She had ordered the Recovery Shake trial pack, tested the shakes, and was surprised to find that, in addition to fulfilling their purpose, they were also very tasty.
Astrid is captain of the team OCEAN'S 4 , which will take part in the rowing race called World's Toughest Row PACIFIC , a race that starts in Monterey, California, and finishes in Kauai, Hawaii, after approximately 4,500 kilometers. Astrid discovered that the Recovery Shake, in addition to its delicious taste, makes an ideal snack during her rowing breaks. We're naturally delighted, and now around 100 40g servings of Recovery Shake Powder will support Astrid's recovery during her breaks in the world's toughest rowing race.
Team OCEAN'S 4 is the first Swiss team to row across the Pacific and consists of Astrid as captain, Denise, Toni, and Philipp. They will participate in the race with their nine-meter-long, self-sufficient, and self-righting rowboat, which weighs 1,500 kilograms when fully loaded. The team will benefit from Astrid's experience in both preparation and the race. In 2019, she participated with Team Swiss Ocean Dancers successfully participated in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, a rowing race that ran 5,000 kilometers across the Atlantic from La Gomera to Antigua.
In the PACIFIC CHALLENGE, the four-person team rows in pairs in two-hour shifts, followed by a two-hour break. The team will maintain this rhythm 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, completing the distance from California to Hawaii in 30 to 55 days. During breaks, the rowers can sleep for a maximum of 90 minutes at a time. They must meet their daily calorie needs of 4,000 to 6,000 kcal with their primarily freeze-dried diet. This is clearly not entirely successful, which will result in them losing 10 to 12 kilograms of body weight per person over the course of the race.
We wish Astrid and her team a steady hand's breadth of water under their keel and are happy that we are also a small part of this adventure.
